Russian language courses

In April 2023, St Petersburg University, with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, launched a large-scale free Russian language-teaching program for citizens of African countries. At the moment, more than two hundred people from Kenya, Algeria, Niger, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are systematically moving towards their goal: to master the Russian language at the A1 level – the elementary level. The remote classes are organized on the Zoom platform, and homework is sent to students by mail or in a chat group and checked individually or during the lesson. Attending classes and doing homework is a prerequisite for successful completion of the course. А standard course lasts nine months.

How are the classes going?

The main textbook of the course is the textbook "МИР" published by a team of authors from St Petersburg University. The manual consists of a textbook and a workbook which take 120 academic hours to learn. During this process, students develop their skills in reading, writing and listening, as well as study A1 level grammar and vocabulary.

During the entire course, students pass 4 midterm tests that imitate the format of the exam: thus, by the end of the course, students will already be acquainted with the format of the Elementary Level Test (ETL), which they will be able to have at the end of the program. Candidates who successfully pass the test will get an A1 level certificate of the state standard form.
